Principle: High performers train. Specifically and daily.
I started gymnastics when I was six and trained bare minimum 3.5 hrs/day until I competed on a National-Championship team at the University of Michigan.
My wife is currently a professional runner with Asics.
I know what it means to be an athlete - it’s part of my every day.
It’s why I’m so mad I haven’t thought about entrepreneurship the same way.
Today’s a bit different. No podcast. Today’s inspiration - I shamefully admit - came from a 10-minute scroll on Tiktok during a feeling-down part of my day.
I’ll post it here.
@thealignmenteffect Who is going athlete mode? #creativitytok #soulalignment #creativeawakening #newparadigm
I can’t vouch for anything else this person says (she seems a little woo-woo to me) but this hit.
Tactics
Find your sport and event.
General ecommerce is not a sport.
Is it DTC brand building?
Within that sport are multiple events: offer creation | positioning | creative (video/photo/design) | copywriting | media buying | funnel design | customer experience/design.
Pick a lane, then train.
Training Schedule
2 hrs of deep work per day at 10am. Non negotiable.
Rewrite or improve one core offer (pricing, guarantees, bonuses)
Build or refine one landing page
Creative/Ad blocks (2-3/wk)
Write 3–5 ad concepts or hooks
Create 1–2 briefs for UGC or your own TikToks/Reels
Review performance and iterate (what actually worked, what didn’t)
Recovery
8+ hrs of sleep - non-negotiable.
Brick BS phone apps during practice hours (you’d never have your phone on the field).
Light, green-heavy meals before and during, protein after (your brain actually needs this).
___
I think I could go on and on here. Coach, handling losses, conditioning vs. technique, practice and performance, different seasons of build and rest…
Habits
Stop behaving like you’re fine being a middle of the pack competitor. If you want world-class outcomes, you have to train, daily, like an athlete.
Start training tomorrow.
God speed,
Mike
